Public Notice for Extension
Governor Lawrence J. Hogan, Jr., pursuant to a series of Executive Orders, granted agency heads the authority to suspend the effect of any legal or procedural deadline, due date, time of default, time expiration, period of time, or other time of an act or event described within any State or local statute, rule, or regulation. Pursuant to this authority, the Comptroller suspended the effect of any legal or procedural deadline, due date, time of default, time expiration, period of time, or other time of an act or event set forth in Title 13 of the Tax-General Article of the Maryland Code through June 30, 2021. This included the due dates for certain taxpayer returns as well as the time by which the Comptroller must issue an assessment (Tax-General Article §13-1101). Under the authority granted in the Governor’s Executive Order 21-06-15-02, the Comptroller further extended that time to August 15, 2021. Therefore, assessments that were required to be issued during the effective period of the Governor’s Executive Orders are timely if issued by August 15, 2021. See the notice.
